Steel Studs & Tracks

Galvanised steel framing in 51mm, 63mm and 102mm profiles — the non-loadbearing framework for every drywall partition. Always in stock at our Edenvale warehouse.

Steel Framing Systems

Steel studs and tracks form the backbone of every modern drywall partition. Lightweight, strong, corrosion-resistant and faster to erect than timber framing — they are the professional standard for residential and commercial partitioning across South Africa.

Galvanised steel studs and tracks in stock

Steel studs and tracks form the robust, non-loadbearing framework for modern drywall partitioning systems. Manufactured from high-quality galvanised mild steel to resist corrosion and ensure longevity, they are available in C-shaped stud profiles of 51mm, 63mm and 102mm depth. Studs are available in lengths from 2.4m to 4.2m, while tracks are U-shaped channels fixed to floors and ceilings at 3.0m lengths. Knurled faces enhance screw grip, and pre-punched service holes every 300mm allow easy routing of electrical, plumbing and data cabling — no drilling required.

Structural Framing

Vertical studs slot into horizontal tracks to create stable, rigid partitions supporting gypsum boards up to 15mm thick, with full insulation capability in the cavity.

Service Integration

Pre-punched holes every 300mm allow electrical, plumbing and data cabling to run through the framing without compromising structural integrity.

Corrosion Resistant

Hot-dip galvanised coating prevents rust in humid South African climates — suitable for coastal, bathroom and kitchen environments.

Fast Installation

Lightweight and easy to cut with tin snips. Faster and cleaner to erect than timber framing — no warping, no shrinkage, no callbacks.

What sizes do you stock?
Studs and tracks in 51mm, 63mm and 102mm profiles. Stud lengths: 2.4m, 2.7m, 3.0m, 3.3m, 3.6m and 4.2m. Tracks in 3.0m lengths. All 0.4mm galvanised steel.
Are steel studs suitable for load-bearing walls?
No — steel studs are for non-loadbearing partitions only. For structural or load-bearing walls, consult a structural engineer.
How many studs do I need per lineal metre?
Studs are installed at 600mm centres, so approximately 2 studs per lineal metre of wall, plus one at each end. Bring your dimensions and we’ll calculate the exact quantity.
Can I run electrical or plumbing through the studs?
Yes — pre-punched service holes are spaced every 300mm along the stud web for easy cable and pipe routing without cutting or drilling.
Which board thickness goes with which stud?
12mm standard board for most partitions. 12mm or 15mm fire board where fire ratings are specified. 12mm moisture board in wet areas. The stud profile (51, 63 or 102mm) determines cavity width — wider cavities allow thicker insulation.
When do I use closer stud spacing than 600mm?
600mm centres is standard for most partitions. 400mm or 300mm centres are used in specific firewall applications and where the wall height exceeds standard floor-to-ceiling dimensions — taller walls require closer spacing to prevent deflection. Ask us when specifying — we’ll advise the correct spacing for your application.
