Gypsum Drywall Boards

12mm standard, fire-rated and moisture-resistant boards for internal drywall partitions. All sizes in stock at our Edenvale warehouse.

Our Drywall Board Range

Drywall boards form the skin of every internal partition. The board type you specify determines the fire, moisture and acoustic performance of the completed wall — getting this right is not optional. We stock the full range below, always on the shelf, so your job doesn’t wait.

12mm Standard Gypsum Board

The 12mm gypsum board is the standard choice for internal walls and partitions in both residential and commercial applications. The increased thickness over 9mm provides greater strength and durability, making it well-suited for high-traffic areas. It is lightweight, easy to cut and install, and carries a good fire resistance rating when used in compliant partition systems.

Strength & Durability

Greater impact resistance than 9mm board — suitable for high-traffic corridors and commercial partition walls.

Fire Resistance

Offers up to 60 minutes fire resistance in compliant single-boarded partition systems.

Multiple Lengths

Stocked in 2.4m, 2.7m, 3.0m and 3.6m lengths — all 1.2m wide.

Easy to Work

Score-and-snap cutting, lightweight handling, and standard drywall screws make installation fast and clean.

Can I use 12mm board in bathrooms?
No. In wet areas such as bathrooms, showers and laundries you must use 12mm Moisture Board, which is treated to resist swelling and mould growth.
How many sheets cover a 10m wall, both sides?
Approximately 17 boards (1.2m wide) for both sides of a standard-height wall. Bring your measurements and we’ll calculate the exact quantity.
What screws should I use?
25mm drywall screws at 200–300mm centres into steel studs.
What sizes do you stock?
We stock 2.7m, 3.0m and 3.6m lengths for standard boards. The 12mm standard also comes in 2.4m. All boards are 1.2m wide.

12mm Fire Board

The 12mm Fire Board is a high-performance, fire-resistant gypsum plasterboard engineered for enhanced safety in construction. Its dense gypsum core is reinforced with glass fibres and encased in distinctive pink paper liners for easy on-site identification. It minimises fire spread while providing a smooth surface for finishing — an essential specification for compliant building projects. Standard board sizes are 2700mm & 3000mm x 1200mm and weigh approximately 10kg/m².

Fire Protection

Slows flame propagation and heat transfer — delivering critical fire resistance in compliant wall and ceiling systems.

Glass Fibre Core

Reinforced gypsum core maintains integrity under sustained heat, outperforming standard boards in fire conditions.

Easy to Identify

Pink paper liner makes it instantly recognisable on site — no confusion with standard or moisture board.

Paint & Plaster Ready

Smooth pink paper accepts standard plasters, paints and wallpapers. Prime first for best adhesion.

Residential partitions — bedrooms, home offices, above garages
Commercial walls in offices and retail — 30 to 60 minute fire resistance
Stairwells and corridors in multi-storey buildings
Renovation projects upgrading older buildings to modern fire compliance

Can 12mm Fire Board be painted or plastered directly?
Yes. Its smooth pink paper accepts standard plasters, paints and wallpapers. Prime first for best adhesion in high-traffic areas.
How does 12mm compare to 15mm Fire Board?
12mm offers entry-level fire protection at lower cost and weight. 15mm extends protection for higher-risk zones and double-boarded systems requiring 120 minutes.
Which screw size do I use — 25mm or 41mm?
25mm drywall screws are standard for single-layer boarding. Use 41mm screws when double-boarding both sides of the stud — for example, in a firewall application where two boards are fixed per side.

15mm Fire Board

The 15mm Fire Board is a premium, thicker fire-rated gypsum plasterboard with a high-density gypsum core reinforced with glass fibres. Engineered for extended durability, it provides up to 60 minutes of fire resistance in single-layer setups and up to 120 minutes in double-layer systems — the specification for hotels, hospitals, server rooms and any high-risk zone where extended evacuation time is critical. Each board weighs approximately 14kg/m².

120 Min Fire Rating

Double-boarded systems achieve 120 minutes — the specification for hotels, hospitals and high-risk commercial buildings.

High-Density Core

Greater mass and density than 12mm fire board — adds rigidity and structural support to non-loadbearing partitions.

Acoustic Performance

Greater thickness provides improved sound insulation — pairs with cavity batts for enhanced partition performance.

Versatile

Compatible with steel stud framing, fire-rated jointing systems and standard finishing products.

Multi-storey buildings — stairwells, corridors and separating walls
Hotels, hospitals and public venues requiring extended fire protection
Server rooms and high-heat zones around steel beams
Theatres, schools and public spaces with strict building code requirements
Double-boarded partitions where 120 min fire resistance is specified

Is 15mm Fire Board compatible with insulation?
Yes — pair it with acoustic cavity batts for enhanced thermal and acoustic performance in the partition cavity.
How do I repair 15mm Fire Board after installation?
Minor damage can be patched with joint compound and sanded smooth before repainting. For significant damage, replace the affected board sections.
Which screw size do I use — 25mm or 41mm?
25mm drywall screws are standard for single-layer boarding. Use 41mm screws when double-boarding both sides of the stud — for example, in a firewall application where two boards are fixed per side.

12mm Moisture Board

The 12mm Moisture Board is a high-density, water-resistant gypsum plasterboard specifically engineered for humid and damp environments. Its core is treated with moisture-repellent additives and reinforced with glass fibres, then wrapped in a distinctive green paper liner for instant on-site recognition. It resists humidity and occasional water exposure without warping, swelling or encouraging mould growth — making it the correct board for bathrooms, kitchens, laundries and any wet area application.

Moisture Barrier

Resists humidity and splash water — absorbs less than 5% water, preventing the swelling and mould growth that standard board suffers.

Tile-Ready Substrate

Provides a stable, smooth surface for ceramic tiles, mosaic or large-format tiles in bathrooms and kitchens.

Mould Prevention

Inhibits fungal growth — ensures long-term hygiene and air quality in enclosed, high-humidity spaces.

Easy to Identify

Green paper liner is immediately recognisable on site — eliminates the risk of using standard board in wet areas.

What makes 12mm Moisture Board water-resistant?
The core is treated with hydrophobic additives and the green liner absorbs less than 5% water — preventing swelling and mould growth in humid environments like bathrooms and kitchens.
How do I install moisture board for tiling?
Screw to steel studs at 200mm centres, seal all joints and screw heads with silicone or waterproof jointing compound, then apply tile adhesive directly to the board surface.
Can moisture board be painted instead of tiled?
Yes — it takes paint well after priming. For bathroom ceilings and laundry walls where tiling is not required, prime and apply a moisture-resistant paint for a clean, durable finish.
Is moisture board the same as waterproof board?
No — moisture board is highly water-resistant, not fully waterproof. For direct water contact (inside showers), apply a waterproofing membrane over the board before tiling.
